Founded in the XIIth century, the city of Vincennes is steeped in History. It is Louis VII's work: he wished to have a place to rest when he came to hunt wild game in the forest. The present Château de Vincennes is located on this building near la Chapelle de la Pissotte, which adds to this rustic atmosphere. Set on the edge of a thousand hectare-wood, the city is today an active suburb, with one of the most sought-after shopping streets in the district, some handpicked gourmet tables and theatres with a long-estalished reputation even on the Parisian side of the ring road. Vincennes still enjoys a constant popularity.
