La Baule, portrait of an art of living

LA BAULE

A member of the exclusive club of the world's most beautiful bays, La Baule, at the gateway to Brittany, is one of the Atlantic coast's unmissable "art de vivre" destinations. Renowned for its 9 km of fine sandy beach, it offers strollers, runners and horse riders a walk between sea and sky from Pornichet to Le Pouliguen. A family day at the seaside, a yachting getaway, kite-surfing, paddle-boarding, shellfish tasting on a terrace facing the horizon... The sea is at the heart of life in Le Baule, chic and relaxed. La Baule's rich cultural and sporting offering is attracting more and more residents in search of a better quality of life, and is establishing itself as a haven of savoir-vivre and elegance.

MARKET OVERVIEW

Like many seaside resorts along the French coast, La Baule saw a 20% increase in occupancy and prices in the post-covid phase. Although the current year has seen prices stabilise, exceptional properties are continuing to rise due to their scarcity. Company directors, senior executives and young retirees from the Paris region and major regional cities are as keen on the setting in La Baule as are many French expatriates.
The most sought-after property category is seafront flats on high floors. Prices vary from €15,000 per sqm on the embankment to €20,000 per sqm on Plage Benoît. La Baule is also renowned for its beautiful villas. Often family-owned and sometimes listed, they stand out for their character and varied styles. Very rare on the market, their average price is in excess of €11,000 per sqm.  With a direct three-hour TGV link to Paris, the Baulois market owes its stability to its exceptional environment and the scarcity of supply. However, the second quarter of 2024 saw a slight slowdown, reflecting a change in buyer behaviour.

LE FOUQUET’S

The unrivalled

Inspired by the salt marshes, the new decor of the Hôtel Barrière Le Royal La Baule invites you to experience a change of scenery. Sculptures and rosettes, moucharabiehs, stylish furniture and silky fabrics, in this decor of harmonious tones awaits the illustrious Fouquet’s table. The “brasserinomique” cuisine reinvented by Pierre Gagnaire is inspired by local produce. The stars of the menu are oysters from Île aux Moines, roast blue lobster and traditional sole meunière. And let’s not forget the Well-Being menus devised by the Chef in collaboration with the dieticians at the Thalasso & Spa Barrière La Baule, designed to help you enjoy your meal with complete peace of mind.

LES ALBATROS

Sharing, tasting, exchanging

An institution on La Baule’s long beach, Les Albatros and its “juice and yoga hut” concept welcomes you to its relaxed atmosphere with your feet in the sand.  Here, we live local. Extra-fresh locally-grown produce, food and wine pairings in partnership with local winegrowers – that’s the recipe for a creative menu that’s definitely a change of scenery. We start with mackerel rillettes, mustard and samphire and a few hen eggs and trout with seaweed tartar. Then there’s monkfish roasted on the bone with saffron onions, corn cream and green apple, or pollack with sweet potatoes and baby spinach. And it would be a mistake to leave this corner of paradise without discovering the Crémet Nantais and its Brière honey granula for dessert.
