Taking Brussels’s bait

Perspective

20/02/2019

It’s not a legend per se, but a legendary truth that Belgians are very hospitable. Living in Belgium is full of good humor and a high quality of life. Frédérique Pauporte, Director of BARNES Brussels, confirms that many of her foreign clientele is attracted to the peace and gentle way of life in Belgium. As a matter of fact, Belgians are very pleased with its dynamic momentum drawing in new residents.

The clientele, Frédérique Pauporte tells us, is comprised of large Belgian families, but also expatriates from France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. They are businessmen and businesswomen, media leaders, extremely wealthy, celebrities, artists, and families who want to indulge in the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Belgium.

Fortunately, BARNES has an international reputation, with 85 offices around the world and clients who have already acquired property with BARNES: a villa in St. Barts, a chalet in Gstaad, a house in Miami.

The BARNES Brussels agency specializes in luxury real estate: mansions, villas, manors, apartments, penthouses with terraces, pieds-à-terre, etc. “Our agency is rich in counsel and proposals. We offer beautiful properties, grand residences with lawns, pools, tennis courts, and proximity to the city and its liveliness.”

What are the most popular areas?

“We don’t like to make generalizations, but we noticed that our Belgian clients prefer greener, quieter, and more residential areas - but no further from 15 minutes from the city center - in order to enjoy certain luxuries only space can afford. For example, Rhode-Saint-Genese with its lush vegetation and large private driveways are very popular. Non-Belgian clients want beautiful residences with classical architecture, but closer to the city in areas like Uccle and Ixelles. Mansions and hôtels particuliers with huge gardens are of course highly sought-after. Residences that respect traditional styles with lovely moldings or Haussmannian from the 1930s are very in-demand. The proximity to Lycée Français and international schools are undeniable assets.”

The BARNES Brussels agency has a large property portfolio, including high-end apartments. Frédérique Pauporte, who is also a notary, will take care of all the estimates, appraisals, and real estate expertise. “I always work in tandem with one of the agency’s consultants. We advise our clients. We work as team finalize the acquisition or sale of the property.”

“We opened a second agency to meet the growing demand of our clients: BARNES Brabant-Wallon covers Waterloo, Fabourg, Lasne, and its surroundings.”

Brussels in one word

We asked Frédérique Pauporte to play our little game to define the city of Brussels in one word. Without a second hesitation, Frédérique replied: Dynamism. Brussels is not the only capital of Belgium, but of the European Union, as a place of economic, institutional, and cultural growth. Residents enjoy home life, professional life, and cultural events such as the Patinoire Royal with innovative art exhibitions and directed by Valérie Bach, an old Paris in the heart of Brussels. In terms of architecture, the city is a gold mine, with buildings from the early 20th century to modern houses signed by Eli and Corbiau.

Frédérique Pauporte is right, Brussels is a capital on the rise.
