Exhibition 'Infinis d'Asie' at the Asian art museum, with BARNES Art Advisory

Perspective

25/02/2019

President of the Guimet Asian Art museum (mnaag) Sophie Makariou has decided to shine the spotlight on photography collections from the museum’s archives. To do so, she and Jean-Baptiste Huynh have launched The “Infinis d’Asie” exhibition in partnership with BARNES Art Advisory.

Jean-Baptiste Huynh is a regular visitor. The artist fosters a unique and rather intimate relation with Asia, as he was born of a French mother and Vietnamese father.

«Of course, he says, my dual origins play a role in my appreciation for the museum... I love the fact that its rich collections are perfectly highlighted by the layout, whilst remaining on a human-scale».

For 30 years, the artist has roamed the Earth with his trusty - and so far unchanged - camera to capture its many riches. «Ever since I started photography, I have respected my original technique. I always position myself at the same distance of the subject to capture its instantaneity. Over time, this plain form of simplicity became my signature».
