The house is hidden from the street by a huge black gate, but it’s impossible to miss this remarkable mansion with its original architecture from Lake d'Enghien (Val-d'Oise). A possible tribute to the famous early 19th century courtesan, Caroline Otero, who once lived here. This property is listed for sale at €3.4 million by the BARNES real estate agency.
Marble flooring in the hall and the bathrooms, parquet in the bedrooms, large patio doors in the living rooms, over 3m ceiling height, a monumental staircase inside and a double helix staircase outside... there is no doubt about it, this is the crème de la crème of luxury properties.
Guests can instantly appreciate the large volumes that make this property perfect for entertaining from the moment they step into the hall. The lounge adjoining the almost equally generous study leads onto the garden, and affords a stunning view of the lake.
The room also features a huge 8m-long wall tapestry that draws the eye. “My parents bought it in Belgium in the early 1960s”, explains the owner, Gérald. “They were so proud of it they asked the architect to design the lounge to accommodate its size”.
On the other side of the hall, a circular dining room is ideal for family meals. “You can seat up to 20 people”, the owner promises. To the rear is a spacious kitchen, a vestige of another era, a pantry and a toilet “for staff”.
